Freelance content creator & coordinator

  • On-site, Hybrid
    • Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands
  • People for People

Job description

Are you a creative maker who doesn’t stay behind a desk, but goes into the field to capture the real story? Do you have a sharp eye for social media trends, are you a hero with your smartphone, tech-savvy, and eager to use your skills for tangible humanitarian impact? Then this is your role.

About People for People

People for People Foundation connects the business community to targeted humanitarian aid. We translate collective engagement into rapid, concrete action to restore lives in times of crisis. Founded by the founders of bunq, Picnic and Bird, we combine the power of the private sector to provide fast and targeted support to people affected by crises.

Whether it is delivering a school bus in Ukraine, arranging emergency transport for essential aid supplies within 48 hours, or launching a nationwide campaign for thousands of children in crisis-affected areas: we believe in doing, learning and creating direct impact. No slow bureaucracy, but the speed of a tech scale-up.

Your role

As a Content Creator and Coordinator, you are the creative engine and the voice of our organisation.

You work closely with and report to our Partnerships & MarCom Lead. While they set the strategic direction and close partnership deals, you ensure that our organisation and impact become visible, tangible and shareable to the right audience.

You are a true maker. You don’t just write plans, you mainly execute them yourself. You manage our social media channels (LinkedIn and Instagram), maintain the content calendar, design razor-sharp visuals and videos in tools such as Canva, and write our newsletters. But most importantly: you go out into the field. You visit project locations (such as reception centres, partner events or logistics hubs) to capture the raw, human stories of our work with your smartphone and translate them into impactful photos and short-form videos (Reels).

Your responsibilities

  • On-the-ground storytelling: You travel to our projects and initiatives (such as reception centres or logistics hubs) to gather stories. Using your smartphone, you shoot and edit dynamic videos (Reels), take photographs and interview partners and volunteers.

  • Social media & community coordination: You manage and maintain the content calendar for our channels (LinkedIn and Instagram). You write engaging copy, respond to our community and ensure that we remain top-of-mind online with our followers and business partners.

  • Content creation & branding: You independently develop all social media assets, newsletters and website updates. You safeguard our renewed brand identity and do not hesitate to use AI tools to create smarter and faster.

  • Campaign execution: You support the MarCom Lead in rolling out major impact campaigns and activations. You ensure that all communication assets are online on time, razor-sharp and of high quality.

  • Newsjacking & experimentation: You closely follow world news and online trends to respond immediately with relevant content. You continuously test which formats and content perform best and use data insights to optimise our online strategy.

Job requirements

Who are we looking for?

  • Experience: At least 2–3 years of experience in social media management, content marketing or online communications.

  • Visual skills: You are highly skilled in smartphone photography and short-form video editing (e.g. CapCut, Reels). You independently shoot and edit video and photo content and have demonstrable experience with this type of production. Experience with Canva is essential; experience with the Adobe suite (Premiere/Illustrator) is a plus.

  • Impact storytelling & safeguarding: You have a strong ability to translate complex and sensitive humanitarian situations into hopeful, motivating and respectful content. In doing so, you always work with attention to do-no-harm and safeguarding principles: you know better than anyone how to share stories while preserving the dignity of those involved.

  • Corporate sensitivity & commercial understanding: You understand what motivates companies to collaborate with a social impact organisation. You effortlessly switch to a business-oriented tone of voice to communicate the impact of our partnerships convincingly. You instinctively understand which messages are relevant to corporate partners and know how to communicate them professionally.

  • Language skills: Because you will work closely with both Dutch and international partners, excellent written and spoken Dutch and English are a strict requirement.

You are

  • Independent & adaptable: You are proactive, enjoy taking initiative and thrive in a dynamic, sometimes unpredictable environment. You switch quickly between planned campaigns and ad hoc requests from partners. In addition, you are coachable: you immediately translate constructive feedback into even better communication.

  • Hands-on: You take initiative, work pragmatically and gain energy from making things happen yourself in an environment where a lot is constantly changing.

  • Tech-savvy & data-driven: You are comfortable with tools and quickly adopt new (AI) technologies and platforms. You understand how algorithms work, closely follow online trends and use data and analytics to identify what truly resonates with the target audience.

  • Socially engaged: You have a deep, demonstrable interest in asylum and migration issues. You are aware of current global developments and understand the context in which we operate, allowing you to communicate with substantive insight.

  • Organised & detail-oriented: You maintain calm and oversight of your content calendar and deadlines. Because you often work independently on location, you are critical of your own work: you carefully check your copy and visuals for spelling, tone of voice and correct tagging of corporate partners before publication. You combine the speed of a scale-up with a sharp eye for detail.

  • Stakeholder management: You easily connect with a highly diverse group of stakeholders and cultures. You possess the organisational sensitivity to engage just as smoothly and convincingly with corporate executives as with vulnerable young people or local aid organisations at a reception centre.

  • Passion for impact: You are intrinsically motivated to use your communication talent for a better world and believe in the power of action.

What do we offer?

  • A highly independent role for 16 to 32 hours per week in which you directly make a difference for people in crisis situations.

  • The role starts on a freelance basis (self-employed contractor), but an employment contract is certainly open for discussion in the future or by mutual agreement.

  • A suitable NGO rate to be agreed upon for freelancers. If you choose employment, the salary ranges between €2,600 and €3,400 gross per month (based on 40 hours, pro rata), including travel expenses and a MacBook on loan.

  • Maximum flexibility through our hybrid working model, allowing you to work part of the time from home. We believe in the power of in-person collaboration at our Amsterdam office, while understanding the benefits of remote work. In addition, you will regularly be out in the field conducting site visits and interviews.

  • Room for growth and development, because we believe in doing as well as learning. You will have access to team training and coaching to continuously challenge yourself.

  • An energetic team in a prime Amsterdam location, including barista coffee, shared hot lunches, healthy snacks and enjoyable social gatherings.

Does this sound like your next step?

Are you ready to make a difference with your phone in hand? Send us your CV, a short motivation letter and, most importantly, a few examples of content you are proud of (e.g. an Instagram post, a video you created, a written piece or your portfolio).

Note: If you have a refugee or migration background yourself, we strongly encourage you to apply. Your unique perspective and lived experience are invaluable in helping us tell our stories in an authentic and respectful way.

If we see a match, we would love to invite you for a coffee at our office!
